Mercari, a flea market app launched by Japanese serial entrepreneur Shintaro Yamada, has been showing good numbers of late. Since the release of its Android app back on July 2nd, more than 50,000 users have put over 10,000 items up for sale using the marketplace.
Kouzoh, the startup behind the app, introduced the iOS version of its app today, and also announced that it has fundraised 50 million yen (approximately $500,000) from East Ventures. ...continue reading ...

- Yamada is famous for selling his previous startup, Unoh to Zynga two years ago. Yahoo Auction has been almost dominant for many years in Japan in C2C marketplace. But along with a penetration of smartphone and tablet, new entrants including startups are appearing recently such as Fril and CyberAgent's Pashaoku. All of them including Mercari claim its easiness to use for non-teckey people. It is interesting to see who will win the race.
